Fishing in Muurame

Muurame is located between two large lakes. Muuramenjoki is a river running from the clear-watered Lake Muuratjärvi to Lake Päijänne. The river is a good, easily accessible fishing place for both beginners and fishing enthusiasts. Both lakes are rich in fish and beautiful; and the best way to experience them is to go out on a boat or a canoe. There are also smaller lakes and ponds in Muurame where you can fish on the shore.

Catchable-size rainbow trout are introduced in River Muuramenjoki in the summer, and you can catch them using either a rod and reel or flies. The best spots along the rapids can be found near the fire station, ending in the beautiful calm pools of the fire station, and next to the health centre where there is also a fish pass. The current runs more evenly over a long distance, and there are good places to cast also upstream. You can easily get to anywhere you want along River Muuramenjoki by foot, and there are plenty of riverside spots where you can fish. Please note that there is a quota of fishers permitted on the river, so you should book your license in advance.

Fishing licenses are sold at Kukka- ja hautauspalvelu Kannel, Virastotie 7, Muurame.
